The Scotstown Tidy Towns committee has been very busy recently. The committee is small, and there's not a lot of funded staff available. However, it's onwards and upwards. The householders in the community have been a big help, and recent painting and replanting of the pots has made a great impact. The annual children's art competition has concluded, and as usual, the standard has been very high. Entries are on display in the village pharmacy. Well done to the children from Urbleshanny N.S who have won the "People's Choice" award in the EcoUNESCO competition for their work in highlighting Sliabh Beagh - it was a wonderful project.

It was a very informative outing, allowing us to visit, assess and suggest new ideas with other groups, as well as welcoming suggestions for our own village. We passed around a questionnaire where participants could write down things they liked about our village, things they did not like, and suggestions for improvement. The bus tour took in Ballinode, Hollywood Lake, Scotstown, Tydavnet, Emy Lough, Glaslough village and Cluain Lorcain estate in Monaghan town, which has a very active tidy towns group. Now we know how the Tidy Towns judges feel when they visit, so much to see.... so little time. We hope to incorporate some of the things that we liked into our plans for the future, and we are working on going through the returned questionnaires to help iin our planning.
